Martin Stoker – 1950 Morris Minor Series MM Lowlight

In production from 1948 to 1950 and powered by a 918cc side-valve engine, these ‘Lowlight’ Minors might have boasted modest performance but they were packed with character, and that’s very much the case with the example you see here.

Martin already owns around twenty Minors and is aiming to have one of each variant, but this Lowlight is his sixth. “My other one is in superb condition, but when I saw this complete wreck on an internet auction site I knew they would look perfect together.”

Purchased around five years ago he describes it as complete but in need of total restoration, but that isn’t what he has in store for the Romain Green British classic. In fact he is going to keep it exactly as you see here, forming a fascinating static display beside the rather nicer one that he owns.

He goes on to say that the exterior is rusty, the interior is in a poor state and while the engine turns over it doesn’t run. It would certainly be a major project to get this charming car back on the road, but we like the fact that it will remain as something of a time-warp.

There is more that is of interest to Minor enthusiasts, too. “It was registered in Oxford and is quite an important part of the model’s history. It was only later that I discovered that it has a consecutive chassis number to the other one I own, so to have the two together is very special.”

That unlikely coincidence only adds to this car’s appeal, and something we feel sure will be of interest to visitors. It might not be destined for restoration, but this is just the sort of barn find we like.
