1933 Jaguar SSII – Tom Wilkes - *Winner*
)
This 1933 Jaguar SS2 Series 1 Coupe is an exceptionally rare and historically significant vehicle. Believed to be one of only three surviving examples, it is also thought to be the oldest known SS2 in existence.
Originally produced by SS Cars Ltd, which later became Jaguar, the SS2 was a stylish and well-crafted pre-war coupe, showcasing the early DNA of what would become one of Britain’s most iconic automotive brands.
The car’s long and fascinating history adds to its significance. Its previous owner acquired it in 1959 and drove it regularly until 1976, when it was taken off the road for restoration. Unfortunately, the restoration was never completed, and the car spent the next 50 years in storage.
Over the decades, an extensive collection of documentation was gathered, tracing the car’s history back to its original order. Since taking ownership, Tom has continued to research its past, even locating the family of a previous owner who sold the car in 1951.
“As soon as I was made aware of the car, I knew I had to save it from falling into the wrong hands,” Tom explains. “This car is a crucial part of Jaguar’s history and deserves to be fully restored.”
Though he has the skills and dedication to restore the car, the project presents a significant financial challenge. Saving this important piece of Jaguar’s heritage will require substantial investment, but its rarity and historical importance make it a truly worthy endeavour.
