1960 Aston Martin DB4 – Julian Crossley
)
Discovered in a collapsed garage after its elderly eccentric owner moved to live in a nursing home. Sold recently at auction by the Bangers & Cash team, who took a whole day to extract it from its location.
A mature tree needed to be removed which had grown behind it along with a very rusty Triumph TR7.
It is thought the owner began some restoration work around 30-40 years ago but then abandoned the project.
The car appears to have covered just 37,000 miles from new and has only had four owners, two being from the same family.
Despite its dilapidated appearance, the underside of the car is structurally very solid apart from the front left-hand chassis and cross member, which are heavily corroded.
The paint applied to the underside during the stalled restoration project protected it while stored over a damp inspection pit.
Restoration will begin following the NEC show and filmed and recorded in stages to be published on Instagram and YouTube.
The project will be sponsored by cooling and heat transfer engineering specialist Thermex Ltd while much of the practical work will be undertaken by enthusiastic engineering students from the University of Birmingham Motor Racing Team, supported by specialists as required.
