Paige Latimer - 1990 Renault 5 GT Turbo

In 2003, Paige’s dad spotted a Renault 5 GT Turbo for sale on the roadside for £500. He cheekily offered £100, and to his surprise, the owner accepted. He towed it home, and for years, it sat in the back garden - Paige’s first memories of it. At six, she turned it into her spaceship, the cats as her crew, and the dashboard buttons as thrusters.

“Eventually, my dad began restoring it,” Paige explains. “I was in primary school when I first saw it prepped for paint - unfortunately, in Subaru Pearl White instead of its original Glacier White. Still, I was thrilled that my spaceship was about to hit the road.

“This marked the era of “Dad-Daughter Days”—our Renault 5 adventures, from ice cream for breakfast to showing up modern hot hatches. My grandad, a former Renault employee, loved seeing us in it. But my dad’s dream car was a Renault 11 Turbo, which he finally acquired in 2011. The 5 was slowly sidelined, needing dodgy repairs just to pass MOTs.”

In 2016, Paige drove herself to prom in the 5, making the local papers. But soon after, it suffered two crashes and was left to sit. By 2024, Paige had had enough, and the car began its second restoration. Norfolk Resurrections tackled the rust, returning it to Glacier White. Late nights and hard work saw it reborn.

Now back on the road, the 5 is loved everywhere. A past owner even shared a 1993 photo of it! It’s not perfect, but that’s its charm. Paige’s beloved Renault 5 GT Turbo is here to stay.
