Darren Collins
From a family of engineers Darren has been wielding spanners on construction kits as long as he can remember, restoring and building cars from the age of 14.
He started his career as a YTS apprentice coachbuilder, making and restoring bodywork on vintage vehicles before joining the Royal Navy to embark on a career in Engineering.
Serving 18yrs on Aircraft Carriers to Minesweepers and everything in between, with drafts to the USA, South and Central America, Africa and the Gulf War, Darren maintained and eventually became Engineering Officer of the Watch 1. a job description he equates to Scotty from Star Trek.
Upon leaving the Armed Forces, he trained with Bentley and Rolls-Royce at Crewe, before working 18 yrs with the new R-R at Goodwood.
He designs, engineers, restores and builds cars, and along the way building a private collection currently at 17 classic cars.
Darren has co-written Haynes Manuals and has been behind the scenes on many Film & TV shows including James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies, Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang, Foyles War, For the Love of Cars, Drew Scotts Dream Car, James May’s Toy Stories, Top Gear and most Recently the new TV show Ant Anstead Born Mechanic.
